KP Talks Books is a simple blog written by a book lover for other book lovers. It features a mixed bag of books, covering everything from fantasy to horror, sci-fi to children's books. The content mostly consists of reviews, but there's a little bit of book talk thrown in from time to time, as well as thoughts on partially finished books if they happen to be very long. There are even a few useful links for those who love books as much as I do, which will send you to some of the most popular online book communities, as well as some tools I've found useful for finding and cataloging books.
The Rating System, or, I'm Really Not That Harsh
KP Talks Books uses the Goodreads five-star rating system, which is:
1 star: I didn't like it
2 stars: It was okay
3 stars: I liked it
4 stars: I really liked it
5 stars: It was amazing
For this reason, you're likely to see a lot of two- or three-star reviews around here, and this does not mean that the reviewed books are bad. Three stars, after all, means, "I liked it." It's rare for me to give either one-star or five-star reviews. For a book to receive a single star, it would have to be really bad, with significant flaws that made the reading of it completely unenjoyable or may even have led to a DNF. Conversely, for a book to receive five stars, it would have to be incredible, making me feel as though it had taken me on a journey, wrapped me up completely in its world and its characters, and left me wanting more when it ended. Most books don't fall on either end of the spectrum, so middle-of-the-road reviews just mean that a book was good, even very good, just not amazing nor awful.
A Note on Spoilers
Everyone hates having a story ruined for them. For that reason, I do my best to keep KP Talks Books as spoiler-free as possible. When I copy my reviews directly from Goodreads, I block out the spoilers and provide links to the full review on Goodreads for those who have either already read the book or don't mind having it spoiled for them. At the same time, as with any book review, I can't promise that absolutely nothing important will be given away. One man's spoiler is, after all, just a meaningless piece of information to someone else.
